Filippova Margarita

Research interests

Margarita`s scientific interests lies in the area of perception of ambiguous information, and in particular she is interested in perception of dual images. Dual images are drawings that combine two meanings, allowing the receiver to choose which of the two alternative interpretations he or she is aware of. The results of her experiments shows that the unconscious meanings of dual images are not equivalent to the unpresented, but rather they should be called “rejected.” This conclusion can be made since in the experiments the influence of unconscious meaning on consciously made decisions and reactions of the subjects is detected. In addition, dual images are interesting in that with constant objective stimulation our subjective vision changes at some point in time (the phenomenon of perceptual reversal of dual images). Margarita also studies what early processes precede this change, including searching for psychophysiological correlates of the initial rejection of any meanings and the further sudden awareness of them.

In the Lab

Margarita works in a group which is focused on the behavioral and psychophysiological differences between two types of learning: explicit encoding and fast mapping. Her tasks in the group include elaboration of experimental designs, conducting the research and data processing.
